Criminal defence case study - rape - mobile phone analysis
The following is an anonymised case study based on a real assignment conducted by CCL-Forensics for a criminal defence solicitor
CCL-Forensics was instructed by a firm of solicitors to try and locate a specific text message which had been deleted from a mobile phone exhibit, which the defendant claimed proved their innocence on a rape charge.
The prosecution had already analysed the phone and had been unsuccessful in finding any data.
Utilising CCL-Forensics’ extensive in-house forensic tools, a senior mobile phone analyst was successful in recovering 20 call records. The message that had been specifically requested by the defence was also found in addition to 40 other supporting texts.
The case was dismissed.
