Law Enforcement Case Study - Blackmail - iPhone analysis

The following is an anonymised case study based on a real assignment conducted by CCL-Forensics for a Law Enforcement Agency

CCL-Forensics was contacted on a weekend morning by a police force which had just arrested two individuals on suspicion of blackmail.

They had seized a number of iPhones and wanted to present the evidence contained within them to the suspects while in custody.  The OIC arranged for the phones to be delivered to CCL-Forensics’ laboratory, where two analysts had been placed on standby to analyse the devices.

Evidence - which the Police Force described as crucial - was found on the phones, which allowed greater focus to be put on the questioning of the suspects.

This “real time evidence” can be crucial to officers in serious crimes, as it allows them to question suspects at an early stage while in custody.
