ISO17025 (application submitted)
ISO17025:2005 is a standard which covers testing and calibration, and is a standard insisted upon by the new Forensic Science Regulator. The process of carrying out digital forensics is considered to be "testing" of technical equipment, and as such comes under this standard. To achieve this accreditation, a forensics provider must demonstrate documented standard operating procedures for all work undertaken. This ranges from how exhibits are handled and treated, through to the analysis process itself. ISO17025 ensures that those undertaking digital forensics work are trained and qualified to undertake this highly specialised field of work. This standard is awarded and audited by the standards body UKAS directly.
