E-discovery - or e-disclosure as it’s also known - is a method of processing, viewing and categorising electronically stored information for use in legal cases.
As more and more information used in litigation is stored electronically (emails, word processor documents etc), it makes sense to keep them electronically, rather than print everything out. This also ensures that useful metadata (data embedded within the document) is retained. E-discovery processes can easily handle large amounts of electronic data, enabling it to be filtered and categorised quickly and efficiently.
The method of data capture in an e-discovery process is also important. If the data is collected forensically, the integrity of that information is maintained, and even deleted data which could be relevant to the case may be recovered.
Documents can then be filtered down by file type, date range or by keyword, leaving only relevant information for review.
CCL-Forensics has years of experience in the on-site capture of data from computers, servers, mobile phones and other digital media. This data can then be analysed based on a specific requirement by one of our forensic analysts, or used as part of an e-discovery process where the client themselves reviews the information, and categorises it accordingly.
We have two dedicated “viewing suites” where clients can use specialist software to examine large amounts of data on screen, with on-demand assistance from an expert digital analyst. Only a short amount of training is required to use the equipment, and many clients find it intuitive and effective.
